The Kia Seltos compact SUV is just days away from launch. Even before launch, the SUV is witnessing big demand, with over 23,000 bookings ever since Kia Motors officially opened pre-bookings 20 days ago. The Seltos is built in India, at Kia Motors’ Anantapur factory, and is expected to take on the likes of the Hyundai Creta, Renault Duster, Maruti S-Cross, Nissan Kicks and the Renault Captur. The SUV is slightly larger than the Creta but much smaller than the likes of the Mahindra XUV500, Tata Harrier and MG Hector. Also, it has a lot more features than the Hyundai Creta. What this means is, Kia Motors could price the Seltos in between the Creta and the Harrier/Hector. While there are rumours suggesting a sub-Rs. 10 lakh starting price for the Seltos, Kia Motors is yet to give any official price indication for the new compact SUV.

The Seltos will be offered with multiple engine and gearbox options. In fact, it’ll have the most variety in its class, in terms of the sheer number of engine-gearbox combinations. There will be two petrol engines on offer: a 1.5 liter-4 cylinder naturally aspirated unit with 115 Bhp-144 Nm and a 1.4 liter-4 cylinder turbocharged unit with 140 Bhp-242 Nm. The diesel will be a 1.5 liter-4 cylinder turbocharged unit with 115 Bhp-250 Nm. The naturally aspirated petrol engine will get 5 speed manual and CVT automatic gearbox options while the turbocharged petrol will get 6 speed manual and 7 speed twin clutch automatic gearboxes. The diesel will get 6 speed manual and 6 speed torque converter automatic gearboxes. All trims of the Kia Seltos will be front wheel driven. In markets abroad though, Kia does offer an all wheel drive layout on this SUV.

Coming to the features on offer, a large floating touchscreen unit with Android Auto, Apple CarPlay and a flurry of connected car features will be a big draw on the inside of the Seltos, which will also get an electric sunroof, 8 way adjustable ventilated driver’s seat, multiple driving modes, multiple terrain modes, leather seats, heads up display, a Bose stereo, and 6 airbags on the top-end trims. Interestingly, Kia will offer these features on even the top-end automatic variants. The Seltos does get very plush interiors and many premium car features, and this is something that a lot of car buyers in India want. Kia Motors has already begun test drives of the Seltos across most of its 180+ dealerships across the length and breadth of India.
